10th Water Research Horizon Conference, 18-19 June, 2019 at Geozentrum Hannover, Germany

The conference is jointly organized by the Water Science Alliance and the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resourses (BGR). This year, the event will focus on water and food security.

The Water Research Horizon Conference (WRHC) is a platform for dialogue on the major challenges in water research. The 10th conference will bring together national and international scientists, practitioners and policy-makers. Participants will engage in a multilateral and multidisciplinary exchange about the role of research in addressing the challenges of water and food security in regard to global change. The event will focus on the research needed to make informed decisions about water allocations and uses now and in the future. The vision is a world without hunger, where water is available in sufficient quantity and quality to meet the various needs of the world’s population without compromising the vitality of ecosystems. This perspective will guide the experts’ inputs to the conference.

The six sessions of the conference are divided into two thematic groups: "Water for Food Security" including the topics “Balancing Water Quantity and Quality for Agriculture”, “Economics of Food and Water” and “Water-related Ecosystems and Agriculture”. The other group,  "Secure Water for All",  deals with the topics “Managing Water Storage Capacities”, “Making the Most of Marginal Water” and “Urban Water Security”. Workshops as well as Side Events will complement these sessions, offering room for in-depth discussions and networking.
