GRoW organizes two events on SDG trade-offs and synergies and on supporting SDG 6 by advancing the water footprint tool.
The World Water Week is approaching soon, which will host two events of “Water as a Global Resource” (GRoW), launched by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in 2017.
On Sunday, 25 August 2019, GRoW researchers will present the potential of different approaches and methods to analyze interlinkages across SDGs, focusing particularly on SDG6 and other water-related goals.
The aim is to discuss intervention points for policy-makers to harness synergies and mitigate potentially conflicting approaches. Different tools and case studies will be presented by several GRoW projects, followed by a discussion with the audience on ways to address conflicting goals and targets in decision-making.
On Monday, 26 August 2019, another GRoW event will discuss how the water footprint can be used to support achieving the SDGs, in particular SDG 6. The event aims to explore the potential of applying current water footprint approaches that go beyond expression of liters of water consumed. GRoW project partners from research and the private sector will provide insights on current water footprint methodologies which include the impact-dimension of water use, such as local water scarcity, water quality impacts on human health and effects on ecosystem services. In the following discussion with the audience, researchers will have the opportunity to exchange with practitioners on how to identify water related hot-spots and to discuss potential mitigation measures.
