On 17 May, the group of GRoW researchers working on the cross-cutting topic “Water Footprint” (WF) met for its third workshop at adelphi’s office in Berlin. The aim of this meeting was to further develop the current draft of the GRoW policy brief on WF as well as brainstorming  with the group on what should be included in a “toolkit for identification of relevant WF methods”. The group also discussed their plans for the event on “Supporting SDG 6 by advancing the water footprint tool” organised by GRoW at the Stockholm World Water Week (SWWW).

The workshop began with a short introduction by Dr. Markus Berger on the current status of the GRoW policy brief on WF. The group considered the next steps to be taken towards its finalisation, discussing especially on methodological challenges faced when using the WF concept and on opportunities the concept offers for achieving SDGs – for consumers, producers, as well as policy-makers. The policy brief will be finalised during the summer and officially presented at the event organised by GRoW at the SWWW.

The workshop then moved on to discussing possible contents of a “toolkit for identification of relevant WF methods” to be developed based on the work and experience of GRoW researchers. Dr. Markus Berger showed first ideas gathered on this topic during previous meetings, which was followed by a brainstorming session on what should be further included.

At the end of the workshop, the group discussed potential contributions from the GRoW projects to the event at the SWWW, based on their innovative approaches and interesting case studies on WF. This event on “Supporting SDG 6 by advancing the water footprint tool” will take place on Monday 26 August 2019; more details will soon be available here.
