The 2020 meeting of the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) was held from July 7 to 16. The theme was "Accelerated action and transformative pathways: realizing the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development". The HLPF annual meeting is the core United Nations platform for follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During the Forum the SDG 6 Global Acceleration Framework was launched in a special event hosted by UN Water. SDG 6 (Access to Clean Water and Sanitation) is an important part of the UN Agenda 2030 as it is closely linked to many other SDGs.

The Global Acceleration Framework is driven by country demand in order to accelerate progress towards SDG 6. It will align the international community to strengthen country planning, implementation and knowledge sharing, while supporting country response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to governments and the UN family, actors from civil society and the private sector are sought to be involved in the process.
