At this year's General Assembly of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) in Montréal, Prof. Dr. Harald Kunstmann, coordinator of the GRoW project SaWaM, moderated a session on decision-based forecasting for sub-seasonal and seasonal forecasts.

The 27th General Assembly took place from 8 to 18 July 2019, bringing together participants from around the world to exchange views on current results, trends and challenges in Earth and space research. At the same time, the General Assembly celebrated its centenary.

Prof. Dr. Harald Kunstmann, coordinator of the GRoW project SaWaM, attended the meeting as moderator. At the session “Sub-Seasonal To Seasonal Predictions: Skill And Limits For Decision-Based Forecasting”, together with the participants he addressed the question of how hydrometeorological forecasts could be improved for sub-seasonal to seasonal periods. Moreover, it was discussed how the practical added value of hydrological forecasts can be better communicated and disseminated so that they can be applied by user communities and positively contribute to their decision-making.
