New study related to GlobeDrought published by the Institute for Geodesy and Geoinformation

The Institute for Geodesy and Geoinformation (IGG) in Bonn is part of the consortium of the GRoW-project GlobeDrought and has recently published the study " A framework for deriving drought indicators from the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE)". Herein, the authors refer to the main focus of GlobeDrought.

With their study, researchers Helena Gerdener, Olga Engels and Jürgen Kusche want to contribute to better identifying and characterizing drought events in order to create the basis for better forecast systems. Specifically, the study uses water storage data from the GRACE satellite mission to construct synthetic data and modify existing data. These newly developed hydrological drought indicators improve the analysis of the effects of GRACE-specific signals – such as linear trends, accelerations and spatial noise – on drought detection.
